Youth Work Camp

There is much excitement for the first work camp in the history of OSLC. We have teamed up with Trinity, Salem and Big Bend Lutheran Churches to get youth together for a work camp. We decided to continue the 2009 National Youth Gathering focus on service and mission. We are combining resources with other local churches in order to get a large group of Montevideo youth together for a week of service in a work camp. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a work camp—it is a time when people will take time to travel somewhere and combine efforts to work for that community. The time is spent working every morning and early afternoon and then having worship and Christian fellowship for the rest of the day.

After preliminary discussion with the Pastors at Salem, Trinity, and Big Bend, we decided that this year a more local trip would be a good idea. We settled on the work camp in St. Paul on July 11-July 16th. We will follow the trip with an experience in the cities to the Mall of America or another attraction before coming home.

We would be invite all youth who are going into 9th grade in the fall of 2010, to those graduating, to participate. Each church will set up it’s own accounts for fundraising, and will deal with matters on an individual level. Our plans are also to organize a joint fundraiser if there is enough interest. The cost of the trip is $248.00 not including the cost of the travel.

If you are interested in more information please call the church 269-8824 or e-mail Pastor Tim at pastortim77@gmail.com. The deadline to sign up is November 15th. We will need a deposit of $100 by this time as well. We will be fundraising for the additional cost of the trip. More details will follow.

You will not only have good time and make new friends at the work camp, but you will be proud of the fact that you made a difference and were able to do something good for someone in need. This sense of pride and accomplishment will carry over in every aspect of your life. Please don’t miss this opportunity.
